Missions

The charitable foundation, the ‘Jeanne & Charles Vandenhove Foundation’, aims to:

• the preservation of the entire estate of the architect Charles Vandenhove, comprising original plans, sketches, presentation drawings, photographs of completed buildings taken by renowned photographers, the architect’s personal photographs, furniture designed by him, models, works of contemporary art, all correspondence and an extensive library of books on art, architecture and literature. This collection, unique in its completeness, significance, diversity and quality, is housed at the Hôtel Torrentius, a 16th-century building attributed to Lambert Lombard, a listed building in Liège designated as exceptional heritage and fully restored by Charles Vandenhove in 1981;
• showcasing all these assets through a publishing policy and by organising cultural events: exhibitions, academic publications, meetings, conferences, guided tours, open days, etc.;
• to make all the archives and the library accessible to students, researchers, historians, architects and project owners, and to strengthen collaboration with faculties of architecture and existing architectural archive centres;
• to collaborate with museums and museum networks on the loan of works of art, furniture, photographs, scale models or other drawings illustrating architectural projects;
• to provide support to the clients of buildings designed by the architect by making the archives available and offering advice on the conservation and/or renovation of the commissioned works, with the aim of assisting public and private owners, whilst ensuring the preservation of the buildings concerned, particularly those listed as heritage sites or those that are significant within the architect’s body of work;
• to provide all forms of assistance to the most disadvantaged.
